Points, Prizes and Finals
Points Structure, Prizes and Brisbane FINALS
As you are all well aware, there has been a lot of work spent on setting up the structure for the 2010 season. We are still tweaking and fixing various aspects as we go, like the online open system. In essence though, we have a definite structure 95% complete.
This particular article relates to the necessity of the points system. In 2009, the points system seeded the Finals LAN, for both an open double elimination and a pro double elimination. In 2010, the same system will be in place. This will be for the FINALS ONLY.
2010 will have multiple LAN stops, as you well know, right across Australia. In line with this the pool play system has come into effect. This means that both open and pro divisions contest in pools before meeting in the pro double elimination. A team's win/loss ratio will determine seeds and results. Tiebreakers will be used to separate teams who are equal. The pool play system will only take effect for open teams at the FINALS event.
For attending a LAN event, you will get 'bonus' points for competing in pool play in addition to your overall position. This system will see points 'blanketed' across pools and be limited to 17-24th points. This will be explained further in a future article.
Prizes
What everyone wants to know, is how extensive the prize pool will be and how it is distributed. First of all, we are in the process of trying to garner sponsorship for this upcoming season. This process is ongoing, and could effect prizes at any event (more rather than less). Reloaded, while a direct partner for the 1st stop, organizes their prizes separately from AusHalo. They have listed a sizable cash pool, but is also based on attendance.
The AusHalo stops prizes will be geared towards the finals. This means that, FOR EXAMPLE, Sydney and Melbourne may have a 2k prize pool, where the Brisbane FINALS has a 5k prize pool.
Essentially, there is a far greater emphasis on attaining points in order to better your seed for the finals event.
How the Finals will run
Seeds 1-8 over the entire season are guaranteed a place and their seed in a pro bracket double elimination. Seeds 9-16 are guaranteed a place and their seed (1-8) in an open bracket double elimination. Teams with seed 17th and above in overall standings will enter open pool play and compete for 8 spots in the open double elimination. This means, a brand new team can come into the competition, make it through pool play, the open double and also the pro double to win it, but it is a longer road to victory.
